Morales, City Manage DATE: January 12, 2018 SUBJECT: TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF FITNESS AREA AT LUMMUS PARK LOCALLY KNOWN AS MUSCLE BEACH The purpose of this LTC is to inform the Commission that the exercise circuit east of the rock wall at Lummus Park and 9th Street, also known as Muscle Beach, will close for construction on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. This hotspot for fitness is receiving a total makeover and will soon feature a complete outdoor gym in two iconic installations. Each of the nature inspired structures have been designed to maximize muscle toning during workouts, combining the most effective exercises such as yoga, gymnastics and calisthenics . The first of its kind to be featured in a public park in the United States, the installation of this provoking, high-end fitness equipment will redefine the workout experience, bring art and functionality to the beach, and be fully accessible to visitors and residents alike. The project consists of the removal of the existing aged equipment and the installation of custom-made triple pull-up bars, dip bars, and vertical pole, as well as the installation of two functional structures , MyEquilibria 's Leopard Tree and MyBeast. The functional structures collectively feature over 30 workout components, listed below. Leopard Tree installation: • Pull -Up Bar • Rings • Parallel Bars • 4 Elevated Hooks (For TRX and Resistance Bands) • 3 Benches (Incline/Flat/Decline) • Sliding Push -Up Handles • 2 Ground Hooks (For Resistance Bands) • Twisting Stability Board • 2 Box Jumps (High/Low) • Wellness Stone (With 2 Hooks and Dip Bar) • Parallettes • Battle Rope • Rotating Push -Up Handles • Elevated Push -Up Handles • 2 Pistons (High/Low) • Sliding Ab Bar MyBeast installation: • Monkey Bars • Multi Pull -Up • Vertical Bar • Stall Bars • Sliding Push -Up Handles • Vertical Pole • Rings • Flying Pull -Up • Sliding Pull -Up Handles • Multi Tool Pole • Hanging Handles • Butterfly Handle • Ladder Pole • Pull -Up Bar The 9th Street fitness area is expected to re -open in March 2018.
