f
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of "The Last Resort", a documentary film
funded in part by our Cultural Arts Council grants and produced by one of our Cultural Institutions — 0
Cinema.
"The Last Resort", highlights a unique aspect of Miami Beach's history, and is set to open at 0 Cinema
and other local theaters throughout February. The film is a cultural souvenir of the vibrant Jewish retiree
community which defined Miami Beach in the 1970s.
Funded in part by the Cultural Arts Council*, the film is a collaboration by Miami natives Dennis Scholl,
President and CEO of ArtCenter South Florida, and Kareem Tabsch, Co-Director of 0 Cinema. The
documentary features captivating photojournalism of the aging Jewish population which escaped brutal
winters and flocked in droves to our sunny paradise up until the 1980s.
On Friday, February 15, filmmakers Kareem Tabsch and Dennis Scholl will participate in a live post-film
Q&A after the 8:00 PM screening at 0 Cinema in North Beach, immediately followed by a reception in
the cinema's lobby. The film opens at 0 Cinema Miami Beach, Coral Gables Art Cinema, Movies of
Delray and Movies of Lake Worth on February 15, and at Living Room Theaters in Boca Raton and
Lake Worth Playhouse on February 22, and at Miami Beach Cinematheque on March 1.
The Tourism and Culture Department will be marketing this film via our Cultural calendar and e-
newsletter, while the Marketing and Communications department will be promoting this film via a press
release, and our City of Miami Beach owned marketing channels.
