The Committee for Quality Education would like you to be aware of the following motions regarding
businesses that sell tobacco and smoke products, approved at the February 26, 2019 committee
meeting.

Members Present: Karmenchu Santana-Vega, Yvette Tache, Betsy Mateu, Judith Berson-
Levinson, Mary Keinath, Ivan Alvarez, Beth Edwards, Tiffany Heckler, Monica Matteo-Santinas,
Susie Stern, and Joshua Levy.
Members Absent: Karen Edelstein, Jordan Leonard, Tiva Leser, and Rachel Weissman.

Motion Text:
The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to
restrict any establishments that sell tobacco and smoke products and/or paraphernalia and
accessories to be located more than 300 feet from schools and that 415t street be designated a
prohibition zone with no waiver/variance provisions.
The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above
request.

Motion Text:
The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to
establish a minimum 1200 foot distance separation requirement between businesses that have
more than 50% of their sales from tobacco and other smoke products and related paraphernalia and
accessories.
The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above
request.
