SUBJECT: MAIN CONVENTION CENTER PARK NAMING
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of the status of the Main Convention Center
Park Naming, which will allow residents to vote on a short list of names via the City of Miami Beach
website.
As the renovation of the Miami Beach Convention Center nears completion, we are presented
with an opportunity to confirm a name for the Main Convention Center Park.
Early in the design and construction phase, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau
(GMCVB) and City staff collaborated on the following suggested names for the parks:
Main Convention Center Park/P-Lot:
1. Convention Center Park
2. City Center Park
In October 2018, the Convention Center Advisory Board (CCAB) motioned that West 8 (landscape
architects) be asked to identify the featured plants being installed in the Miami Beach Convention
Parks and further, that the Parks and Recreation Board consider the names of these plants as
potential names for the Main Convention Center Park, which were then included.
During the December 14, 2018 NCAC meeting, staff were asked to research additional names
with West 8, who recommended the following options for the Main Convention Center Park:
- City Green
- Mosaic Park
- Grove Park
- Grovescape
- Barnacle Park
- City Hall Park
- Green Grove Park
- City Green for the Arts
- Upland Park
At the January 28, 2019 NCAC meeting, discussion regarding the Main Convention Center Park,
NCAC recommended that "Centennial Park" and "Convention Center Park" be added to the list
for consideration and the NCAC further recommended that the Administration solicit feedback, via
a survey platform, from the community on the following names:
- Centennial Park
- Convention Center Park
- Mosaic Park
- Canopy Park
- Mahogany Park
- Royal Poinciana Park
- Other
The public survey on these names was made public on March 4, 2019 via the following link:

Residents are invited to vote one park name and will need to provide their zip code and email address,
to ensure that only one vote per person is captured. If a resident would like to provide an alternate option,
they will still be required to select one of the above names, before providing their own.
This survey is being promoted in the following ways:

- Inclusion in City of Miami Beach bi-weekly E-Blast
- Postings on Nextdoor App
- Hosting on City of Miami Beach website with Home Page banner presence
- Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posting with #MBPARKS
