I am happy to announce that yesterday marks the first day of Earth Month, which the city will be
celebrating all month-long. Many of our city departments and community partners will be hosting
events to educate our residents, visitors and staff regarding the beauty of our natural resources
and the importance of protecting our environment.
• Wednesday, April 3— Rising Above App and Kayak Tour
Maurice Gibb Park (1700 Purdy Avenue) — 2:00PM to 3:30PM
The City of Miami Beach is launching the nation's first virtual resilience tour and to
celebrate the launch of this self-guided tour app, the city will lead a special Biscayne
Bay kayak tour made possible by the Miami Foundation Public Spaces Challenge
Grant. Participants will be provided a FREE kayak and life vest to try out the app. For
those that prefer a walking tour, Public Works Department-staff will be available at
2:30PM to lead a tour of the Sunset Harbour neighborhood.
• Sunday, April 7 — Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off & Paper Shredding
40 Street and Chase Avenue— 8:00AM to 3:00PM
The bi-annual household hazardous waste collection and paper shredding event will
take place at the parking lot on 40 Street and Chase Avenue. During the event,
residents and employees can drop off old chemicals, paints, and electronics for proper
disposal, as well as old documents for secure paper shredding. This will help keep
hazardous waste out of our landfills and our waterways.
• Thursday, April 11 - #PlasticFreeMB Official Launch
1 Hotel South Beach (2341 Collins Avenue) — 6:00PM to 8:00PM
The city will host an evening panel with industry leaders celebrating the launch of the
#PlasticFreeMB program. The panel will be moderated by Mayor Dan Gelber and will
be followed by a networking event. #PlasticFreeMB education and certification program
is aimed at promoting businesses that commit to reducing single-use plastics in their
operations. Interested parties can RSVP at plasticfreemb.eventbrite.com
• Saturday, April 13—Second Saturday Seminar Preventative Pruning
Miami Beach Botanical Garden (2000 Convention Center Dr.) — 10:00AM to 12:00PM
Ian Wogan, Certified Arborist/co-owner of True Tree Service and president of the
Tropical Arborist Guild will lead a discussion focused on how to care you your trees.
Using the Botanical Garden as an example, he will discuss and demonstrate proper
pruning in preparation for the upcoming hurricane season.

• Saturday, April 13— Baynanza Volunteer Clean-Up
Various Locations—9:00AM to 12:00PM
As part of the 37th annual Baynanza, Miami-Dade County will be engaging thousands of
community volunteers throughout the county in cleaning approximately 25 locations
along Biscayne Bay's shorelines and islands, including Maurice Gibb Park, Flagler
Memorial Island (Monument Island), and the Julia Tuttle Causeway. Volunteers can

• Wednesday, April 17 - We-Lab Water, Energy, and Recycling Workshop
North Shore Youth Center(501 72 Street) — 6:00PM to 7:00PM
The City of Miami Beach has partnered with Dream in Green to host a water, energy,
and recycling workshop. Residents will explore the relationship between water and
energy use behaviors and learn to implement sustainability right at home!
Representatives from the City and County will be present to explain the city's recycling
program. As a bonus, participants will receive a FREE WE-LAB Toolkit(valued at$50).
• Thursday, April 18— Earth Day at Miami Beach Botanical Gardens
Miami Beach Botanical Gardens (2000 Convention Center Drive) — 5:30PM to 8:30PM
The Environment& Sustainability Department will join local environmental organizations
at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden's Earth Day celebrations to provide information
on the city's environment and sustainability efforts. The evening will also include a
Recycle Runway Fashion Show by Alexis Carballosa, a runway show fabricated from
recycled products.
• Friday, April 26—Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony& Proclamation
Collins Park(2100 Collins Avenue) — 10:00AM to 11:00AM
Miami Beach will celebrate Arbor Day with a proclamation and through the planting of 6
Bulnesia (Bulnesia arborea) trees in Collins Park. This ceremony will promote the
importance of the urban forest and will re-qualify the city to receive the Tree City USA
designation. Miami Beach has held this designation for 14 years, which is a testament to
the efforts of our community's hard work to protect our vital tree canopy.
• Friday, April 26—Arbor Day Sapling Giveaway
Various Locations and Times
The Public Works, Greenspace Management Division, will host its annual tree sapling
giveaway. The division will visit students at Biscayne Elementary, South Pointe,
Fienberg-Fisher, and North Beach Elementary for a fun, educational event on how to
plant and care for their recently acquired saplings.
• Saturday, April 27—Community Tree Giveaway
Flamingo Park(11 Street and Jefferson Avenue) —9:00AM to 1:00PM
In continuation of the Arbor Day Celebrations, Greenspace Management, Parks and
Recreation, and Environment and Sustainability will be hosting a tree giveaway event.
The giveaway will include multiple fruit and flowering trees, as well as apartment plants
that help improve indoor air quality.
• Saturday, April 27—Composting Workshop W/IFAS and MBBG
PAL Gym (999 11 Street) — 10:30AM to 11:30AM
Join us for a composting event hosted by the Miami Beach Botanical Garden and the
University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS).

Participants will receive a FREE composting voucher to obtain a household composting
bin. This workshop is within walking distance to the tree giveaway so residents can
easily participate in both events.
