L ITER TO COMMISSION
SUBJECT: INTERIM MAINTANANCE OF TR FFIC IMPROVEMENTS ALONG INDIAN CREEK
DRIVE
The purpose of this letter is to inform the commission of upcoming maintenance of traffic (MOT)
improvements that will take place along Indian Creek Drive and Collins Avenue. These interim
improvements will alleviate traffic congestion, address pedestrian safety and enhance access to
properties in the area before Phase Ill of the Indian Creek Flooding Mitigation Project is expected to
break ground in October 2019.
The work will take place April 29 through mid-June 2019, and consist of the following improvements:
• The installation of a pedestrian signal and crosswalk on the west side intersection of Collins
Avenue and 26 street.
• The modification of the traffic lanes south of 29 street to create two (2) continuous southbound
lanes along Indian Creek.
• The removal of the traffic barriers and installation of pavement on the northbound lanes of Collins
Avenue between 25 and 26 streets, to allow residents to make a left in-and-out on the eastern
side of the road.
While the work is underway, northbound traffic on Collins Avenue between 24 and 26 streets will be
reduced to a single lane of traffic. Additionally, the southbound route along Indian Creek between 27 and
30 streets will be redirected to Collins Avenue for approximately one week.
The City has coordinated with the Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) regarding state
participation and FOOT has agreed to furnish the aforementioned proportionate share of the construction
cost for the interim MOT improvements.
