A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK 2019; AUTHORIZING A PROCLAMATION DECLARING THE WEEK OF MAY 13, 2019 TO BE INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK IN THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. REG/rg Attachment F:\CLER\$ALL\LILIA\LTC's-Transmittal's\Deerfield Beach\Resolution 2019-063 Deerfield Beach.docx RESOLUTION NO.2019/063 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ' DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK 2019; AUTHORIZING A PROCLAMATION DECLARING THE WEEK OF MAY 13,2019 TO BE INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK IN THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS,the week of May 13 through 21,2019,is observed nationally as Infrastructure Week 2019 ("Infrastructure Week"); and WHEREAS, the City of Deerfield Beach (the `City") and the State of Florida rely on critical infrastructure, including our roads and bridges, our railroads and transit systems, our ports and airports, our pipes and water system, our reliable power supply, our access to broadband, and our connectivity to the regional,national, and global economy; and WHEREAS, this infrastructure enhances our local and regional economy, our quality of life,our safety,and the strength of our communities; and WHEREAS, decades of underfunding and deferred maintenance have pushed infrastructure to the brink of a national crisis, with preventable catastrophic failures, including derailments and collapses;and E WHEREAS, the City risks losing its competitive advantage to foreign economies by failing to adequately invest in its infrastructure;and , WHEREAS, Americans are waiting in traffic, wasting time and money because of poor infrastructure;and WHEREAS, every dollar invested in infrastructure generates nearly two dollars in economic output;and WHEREAS,to grow the economy,keep Americans safe,and strengthen our communities, all levels of government and the private sector need to work together to rebuild and repair our nation's infrastructure; and WHEREAS, Infrastructure Week has been established to highlight infrastructure investment needs,and to recognize and encourage leadership at the federal, state,and local levels; and WHEREAS, Infrastructure Week challenges policy-makers and the public to address the challenges facing U.S. infrastructure, to move beyond short-term fixes and deferred maintenance, and to envision the innovative solutions, technologies, policies and investments that will improve America's infrastructure future; and s 1 g Resolution 2019/ 063 WHEREAS, the City desires to issue a proclamation recognizing the week of May 13, 2019 as Infrastructure Week. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH,FLORIDA,AS FOLLOWS: Section 1, The above referenced "Whereas" clauses are true and correct and made a part hereof. Section 2, The City authorizes issuance of a proclamation to Evan Wessel, Director of National Outreach, declaring the week of May 13th to be Infrastructure Week in the City of Deerfield Beach. Section 3, The City supports Infrastructure Week and urges the citizens of the City to join in this special observance with appropriate events and commemoration. Section 4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Broward County League of Cities, and the Florida League of Cities, the Governor, and the members of Congress and the Florida Legislature that represent the City, and all other appropriate parties. Section 5, All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 6, If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
