LTC 339-2019 North Beach Water Tanks - Nice n' Easy MIAMI BEACH
OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 339-2019 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members f the Cit Commission
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager
DATE: June 11, 2019
SUBJECT: North Beach Water Tanks —Nice'n Easy
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission ("LTC") is to inform the Mayor and City
Commission that the Administration and the artist collaborative, Nice'n Easy, have
started work at the North Beach Water Tanks.
On February 1, 2019, the Tourism and Culture Department issued an open Call to Artists
for the North Beach Water Tanks. Following review of the submissions, the artist
collaborative Nice'n Easy was recommended to implement their proposal. The artists'
concept was approved at the April 10, 2019 Commission meeting.
Nice'n Easy is a collaborative endeavor by artists Allison Matherly and Jeffrey Noble.
Focused on creating immersive mixed media installations, Nice'n Easy develops a
visually cohesive subtropical vernacular with their material choices and use of repeated
motifs. Often referencing themes of self-help, recovery and interpersonal dependency,
their fabricated environments utilize romantic tropes to enhance the collective emotive
truisms between participants and create a platform for intimate exchange.
Matherly and Noble began work at the North Beach Water Tanks on June 3, 2019.
Below are images of the work in progress, representing the layout of the color field and
design and taking advantage of the negative space, which is the existing green color of
the water tanks. This has afforded them the ability to paint the entire circumference of
the water tanks and areas of the top.
Anticipated project completion is August 2019.
