SUBJECT: Lincoln Road Orchid Project
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to notify the Mayor and City Commission of
the completion date of the orchid installation on Lincoln Road and the unveiling of the project
scheduled for July 11, 2019.
On June 5, 2019, Resolution No. 2019-30847 was adopted, accepting the donation of 500 Orchids
from Terranova Corporati.on in the total approximate value of $10,000. The orchids were installed
on Lincoln Road from Meridian Avenue to Jefferson Avenue. Terranova Corporation in
collaboration with the City of Miami Beach (the City) have established a maintenance plan for the
fertilization, monthly pruning services, and periodic health checks to avoid any pests, or plant
disease to the donated orchids. Terranova will ensure the maintenance of the orchids for the first
year after installation, at which point the City will absorb the maintenance responsibility. The intent
of this donation is to serve as a pilot program to continue the beautification of Lincoln Road
through its urban landscape.
On June 28, 2019, the Fairchild Tropical Garden began planting the native orchids along Lincoln
Road, to the existing trees identified best suited to sustain the orchids.
On July 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Terranova Corporation and Fairchild Tropical Garden will be
hosting a small ceremony commemorating the successful implementation of this pilot program.
