SUBJECT: SPECIAL EVENTS AND ELECTION ACTIVITIES
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission ("LTC") is to inform the Mayor and City
Commission of how the Administration has been handling special events and election
activities in the Civic Center and Convention Center campus including City Hall, Main
Convention Center/P-Lot Park, Botanical Garden and Holocaust Museum.
The City of Miami Beach and the Miami-Dade County Department of Elections are
hosting early voting in the First Floor Conference Room of City Hall as follows: Monday,
October 21st to Friday, October 25th, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, October 26th to
Sunday, October 27th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Monday, October 28th to Friday, November
1st, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, November 2nd to Sunday, November 3rd from 8
a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Tuesday, November 5th, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., City Hall and the Botanical Garden
will serve as precincts for the City's General and Special Elections. If necessary, City
Hall and the Botanical Garden will again serve as precincts on November 19th, from 7
a.m. to 7 p.m. for the City's Run-Off Election.
During this election period, voters have access to one (1) hour of free parking in the
Botanical Garden and City Hall Garage. Election staff for City Hall and the Botanical
Garden have parking access to City Hall Garage.
Concurrently, the Miami Beach Convention Center will host the Miami International Auto
Show ("Auto Show"), which begins loading into the Convention Center on Wednesday,
October 30, 2019 and opens to the public from November 1 — 10, 2019. The Auto
Show's "Camp Jeep," a jeep off-road course, will take place on the eastern half of 19th
Street, between Convention Center Drive and Meridian Avenue. The Camp Jeep load-in
and activation will not interfere with access to the Botanical Garden nor the Holocaust
Museum activities, entrances, parking lot, or sidewalk access to either. However,
vehicular access on 19th Street, between Convention Center Drive and Meridian Avenue
will be limited.
In addition, Design Miami, a large Art Basel associated event, began loading into the
Main Convention Center/P-Lot Park (west of Convention Center Drive, east of Meridian
Avenue, and between 18th and 19th Streets) on Saturday, October 26, 2019 and will
open to the public on December 2, 2019. Design Miami load-in activities will utilize both

18th and 19th Streets, between Convention Center Drive and Meridian Avenue, but will
have minimal impact to voter access to election activities. However, vehicular parking on
the southside of 19th street and the eastside of Meridian Avenue will not be available for
the public.
Lastly, the finishing touches on the renovation of the Main Convention Center/P-Lot Park
continues, but we do not foresee these activities interfering with voting.
The City, Convention Center, and City Clerk staff have collectively worked to ensure
easy access for all voters, election staff, and guests of the cultural institutions and
community. Signage has been prepared, parking accommodations and valet services
are being provided, and Miami Beach Police will have a presence to ensure fluid
pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Likewise, the City staff is working with Design Miami and
the contractors to minimize any issues or concerns. Similarly, the Convention Center
team will be on-site to ensure the Auto Show, and other events during this period, will
have minimal, to no, impact on residents and guests.
