SUBJECT: MIAMI BEACH CULTURE CRAW SEASON LAUNCH RECAP- OCTOBER 17, 2019
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the Mayor and Commission with a recap of the October 17,
2019 Miami Beach "Culture Crawl" FY 19/20 season launch. The Culture Crawl is an initiative from the Tourism and
Culture Department, which had its first reiteration with a three-month run in Spring 2019. The event is aimed at
promoting culture within the City of Miami Beach, by encouraging our residents and tourists to explore and become
acquainted or re-acquainted with our cultural institutions, and various other cultural offerings.
Culture Crawl is a monthly occurrence, taking place on the third Thursday of each month, October- May, from 6 -
9 p.m., and offers complimentary admission to some of the nation's most prestigious institutions, with unique and
varied programming, which changes each month. The Tourism and Culture Department works directly with each
cultural institution, to help produce specific programming which includes open studios and galleries, outdoor films,
live music, exclusive tours, night gardens, and free trolley service throughout South Beach. It is the intent to grow
this program throughout the season and extend the reach into Mid and North Beach. Launching on November 2,
2019, Culture Crawl programming is expanding to the North Beach Bandshell and Rue Vendome Plaza. These
events are 100% free and open to the public and are being done without dedicated funding as part of the City's
annual budget process.
The launch of Culture Crawl season on October 17, 2019 welcomed hundreds of residents and tourists to an Art
Deco inspired dance piece, Corporeal Decorum, at The Wolfsonian-FIU; a guided meditation at the Botanical
Gardens in collaboration with ModernOm Cushion Crawl; projected poetry by 2019 Prison Laureate "Echo"
Martinez produced by 0, Miami; and a night of music at The Betsy, just to name a few highlights.

trolleys complete with Art Deco tour guides, that will drop you off and pick you up at our dedicated Culture Crawl
