SUBJECT: NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT ALT. ROAD AND 4TH STREET
I am pleased to inform you of the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Alton
Road and 4th Street to improve pedestrian safety which is a concern for our community.
The City's Transportation and Mobility Department has been working with the South of Fifth
Neighborhood Association to improve safety at this intersection. The new signal will improve
safety for parents and children crossing Alton Road to and from South Pointe Elementary which
is adjacent to the intersection of Alton Road and 4th Street. During school arrival and dismissal
hours which are times with the highest pedestrian activity, the signal is programmed to operate
an exclusive pedestrian phase to further enhance safety at the intersection.
The intersection was previously equipped with - ,14414. „11
pedestrian flashing beacons; however, following a IA ;;}, ---17111,- -- el
traffic engineering study, it was determined that a .;,,.!w' :; ;;, -
traffic signal would maximize pedestrian safety. '1 - I r4Ri, ,,.f1.-1----
