SUBJECT: Code Compliance and Environmerit and Sustainability Departments Achieve ISO
9001 Quality Management Certification
I am delighted to announce that the Miami Beach Code Compliance and the Environment and
Sustainability Departments are ISO 9001 certified! Both Departments obtained this global
certification after months of hard work and an external audit. Now they are joining the Building
Department for a citywide certification, where we look forward to having more departments join.
ISO 9001: 2015 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a Quality
Management System (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to
consistently provide services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
The standards help guide more than one
million companies and organizations in -- -
more than 170 countries to ensure quality is ,

documentation, and providing high quality
services through a process-centered approach.
This achievement should give our employees pride and our customers assurance. ISO
9001 is not just a one-time certification; it is also a system with structure that builds a culture
and practice of quality, customer service and improvement. As part of this certification, future
routine audits will support its integrity. Both departments identified risks and opportunities for
improvements, as well as actions needed in order to reduce risks or foster improvements.
Throughout this process, both departments look at enhancing customer satisfaction through the
effective application of the quality management system, including processes for continual
improvement. Together the departments created the city's quality policy:
"The City of Miami Beach is committed to providing the highest quality services to our
community by continuously improving the quality management system and service delivery,
as well as efficiently using our resources to enhance the resilience and quality of life of our
community".
Our vision statement was also included within our quality policy, aligning it with our Strategic
Plan:
'A prosperous city with a special flavor of culture, arts, education, and business;
A safe city with a mosaic of residents enjoying life in iconic and historic neighborhoods;
A resilient coastal city with a thriving environment and modern infrastructure;
A pedestrian-first city that makes walking, cycling, and transit the most enjoyable way to
travel; and
A smart city of high quality and efficient services and employees'
ISO 9001 is an excellent system to support the Code Compliance and Environment and
Sustainability Departments as it provides the highest level of service and safety to our
community. invite you to learn more about ISO through: https://www.iso.orq/iso-9001-quality-
