SUBJECT: Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project
Update
I am pleased to announce that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will be begin
mobilization for the next beach renourishment project on Thursday, January 2, 2020. This $15.9M
project is fully funded by the federal government and will address the erosional hotspots in the
vicinity of 64" Street, 55" Street, 47" Street and 29 Street.
The contractor, Eastman Aggregate Enterprises, LLC, will be trucking in approximately 305,000
cubic yards of sand from central Florida. The contractor will begin at 65" Street and is planning
to work from the north to south. The following is the general schedule:
• 65" Street Section - January through March
• 55" Street Section - March through April
• 46 Street Section - April through June
• 27 Street Section - May through June
Please keep in mind that this is not a city project; therefore, we cannot guarantee any particular
outcomes and the schedule may change. As I receive detailed updates regarding the schedule
and construction timeline, I will inform you. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be providing
updates on their project website: https://www.saj.usace.army.mil/MiamiBeachHotspots/.
