SUBJECT: S U N S E T H A R B O U R S T O R M WA T E R P U M P S TA TI O N #3 --A R C HI T E C T UR AL S CR EE N I N G
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update the Mayor and City Commission on
the status of the project to provide architectural screening to Stormwater Pump Station #3,
located at the intersection of 20 Street and West Avenue, in Sunset Harbour.
The project includes the installation of 180 linear feet of decorative perforated stainless-steel
panels to screen the existing generator, electrical panels and pump station within the
median of 20 Street at West Avenue. The panels will be attached to galvanized steel posts,
with stainless steel anchors. Approximately 100 linear feet of the existing concrete traffic
barriers will be replaced with new concrete traffic barriers in order to provide adequate
structural support for the screen. The entire screen assembly is designed to withstand a
Category 5 hurricane. Signage with accent lighting and landscaping delineating the entrance
to the Sunset Harbour Neighborhood will be incorporated into the eastern façade of the
screen (Attachment A).
On April 22, 2020, the City Commission approved the contract with Harbour Construction,
Inc. for the construction and installation of the architectural screening. All necessary permits
for construction have been obtained, and construction is scheduled to begin in July 2020.
The roadway (20 Street) wi ll be closed periodically during construction, and the contractor
will have a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan in place during the process (Attachment B).
Construction is projected to take approximately five (5) months, achieving Substantial
Completion before the end of the year.
We have obtained approval of the screen and coordinated the installation with the Sunset
Harbour Neighborhood Association, the management of the Townhomes at Sunset
Harbour and with the Publix Supermarket, adjacent to the work area. We will continue to
coordinate our efforts, providing advisories and updates, as the work progresses.
