SUBJECT: Twitter #WearAMask Campaign Launching in the City of Miami Beach
The purpose of this L TC is to announce that Twitter will be launching a campaign in the City of
Miami Beach to encourage wearing masks. The social media company is partnering with cities
across the country, including New York City, Chicago, Seattle and Miami, to remind the
communities in an unconventional manner to wear their masks. The campaign is scheduled to
launch in all partner cities the week of September 21 and last approximately two to four weeks.
Masks are a major global conversation and essential to stopping the spread of COVID-19. Over
100M Tweets have been sent about masks since March. While conversations pertaining to
masks may vary in approach, Twitter users are talking about masks in a way that makes them
cool, fun and approachable. Twitter is partnering with local municipalities to bring these Tweets
to life in unique ways, while encouraging habits that promote public health. Tweets will include
some celebrities, some from regular Twitter accounts and some from the City's accounts.
In Florida, Twitter will be launching their campaign throughout Miami Beach and Miami. The
Office of Marketing and Communications has partnered with Twitter to identify strategic locations
throughout the city for these messages, including reaching out to our partners such as the New
World Symphony to coordinate the projection of these messages on their outdoor video wall.
These messages will also be seen in environmentally-friendly chalk on sidewalks throughout the
City creating shareable moments on social media. Examples of what the chalk messages
would look like are included on the following page. The actual messages will all be mask related.
In addition, through the partnership in the #WearAMask Campaign, Twitter is donating a total of
2,750 masks to the City. You will begin to see messages throughout the City in the coming
weeks. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tonya Daniels, Director of the
Office of Marketing and Communications at tonyadaniels@miamibeachfl.gov.
