FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA, DENOUNCING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
The City of Dania Beach Clerk has requested that a copy of these Resolutions be provided to the
Miami Beach Mayor, Commissioners and the City Manager.

A RE SOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DAN IA
BEACH, FLORID A, COND EMN IN G AN TI -SEMI TIC ACTS; PROVIDIN G
FOR CONFLI CTS; FURTHER, PROVIDIN G FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE .
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Dani a Beach finds that anti-Semitism,
an d religious and racial bias have no place in the City of Dania Beach, Florida ("City") an d it is
commi tted to working actively against all forms of prejudice; and
WHEREAS, the City Commi ssion promotes the acceptance of every race, ethni city, an d
religion; an d
WHEREAS, the City Comm ission asserts that every person should be safe and not fear
harm where they live, work, an d play; an d
WHEREAS, the City Commi ssion denounces anti-Semitism throughout the country,
including in Florida and the City; an d
WHEREAS, the City Comm ission denounces the anti-Semitic social media posts
recently made by the Florida State University SGA Senate President; and
WHEREAS, the City Comm ission encourag es citizens to stand up against anti-Semitism
in all of its form s, an d to speak out against anti-Semi tism through peaceful speech and action;
an d
WHEREAS, the City Commission is comm itted to safegu arding the City against the
dangers of anti-Semi tism, while ensur ing that the constitutional rights of every person who lives,
works, an d visits the City are protected;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section l. That the foregoing "Wh ereas" clauses are ratified an d confirmed to be true
and correct an d they are made a part of and are incorporated into this Resolution by this
reference.
Section 2. That the City Commi ssion condemn s the anti-Semitic acts comm itted in
the City, State of Florida, an d thr ough out the country , and declares its stan ce against anti-
Semi tism an d racial, ethni c, an d religious bias an d discrim ination.
Section 3. That the City Clerk is dir ected to distri bute copies of this Resolution to the
Florida State University President, John E. Thr asher, the Board of County Comm issioners for
Broward County and the Broward League of Cities for distribution to all cities in Broward
County.
Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution
are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 5. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its
passage and adoption.

A RE SOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DAN IA
BEACH, FLORI DA, DENOUN CING VIOLENCE AGAIN ST WOMEN;
PROVIDIN G FOR CONF LICTS; FUR THE R, PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, violence against women means any act of gender-based violence that
results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women,
including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurrin g in
public or private life; and
WHEREAS, violence agains t women is an obstacle to the achievement of the objectives
of equality, development, and peace; and
WHEREAS, violence against women both violates and impairs or nullifies the
enjoyment by women of their human rights an d fun damental freedoms; and
WHEREAS, any act of violence against women is an assault on the rights and freedom
of women everywhere; and
WHEREAS, as people remain confined to their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic,
nationwide there are reports that the cases of domestic violence have risen as they are out of
work and money and are forced to go without their typ ical support systems; and
WHEREAS, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, approximately
twenty-four (24) people per mi nute are physically abused by a partn er in the United States; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that of the 87,000 women who were intentionally killed in
2017 globally, more than 58% were kil led by intimate partners or fami ly members meanin g that
13 7 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day; and
WHEREAS, since the lockdown began due to the COVID-19 pandemic, experts across
the globe have reported that the crisis of domestic violence against women is worsening; and
WHEREAS, the City Commi ssion recognizes the urgent need for the universal
application to women of the rights and principles with regard to equality, security, liberty,
integrity and digni ty of all hum an beings and that denoun cing violence against women is in the
best interests of its citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
S e cti o n l. That the foregoing "Whereas" clauses are ratified and confirmed to be true
and correct and they are made a part of and are incorporated into this Resolution by this
reference.
