SUBJECT: Art in Public Places Committee M ion
The purpose of this letter to the Mayor and Commission is to provide an update regarding
two (2) motions made during the October 20, 2020 Art in Public Places Committee ("AIPP")
meeting:
1.Motion to approve an amount, up to $80,000, to support the continuation of
the Art in Public Places Legacy Purchase Program, with revised guidelines
to indicate that acquired work(s) focus on local galleries, artists and/or
artists that have strong ties to Miami-Dade County.
The Art in Public Places Legacy Program was adopted by the City Commission on
September 11, 2019 via Resolution No. 2019-30989. This initiative was
established to deepen the connection of the City of Miami Beach residents and Art
Basel Miami Beach by allowing the Miami Beach community to come together and
select a legacy artwork for our Art in Public Places collection for exhibition in the
Miami Beach Convention Center.
The above motion was made by Nick D'Annunzio, seconded by Michael McManus,
and approved by Yolanda Sanchez Florencia Jimenez Marcos, Maria Elena Ortiz
and Marcella Novela. Aaron Resnick objected to the motion.
2.Motion to approve the placement of temporary works of public art, as
presented by The Bass, for the expansion of the 2020 Art Outside program.
The following artists and projects are included in 2020 Art Outside and were
presented to the Art in Public Places Committee for consideration:
•A series of ten (10) works by local artists to be placed on the beachwalk
from 16 th-23rd Street. Exhibited artists include:

■ Leo Castaneda
■ Gonzalo Fuenmayor
■ Mark Fleuridor
■Michelle Pollisaint
■ Morel Doucet
■ Nathalie Alfonso
■ Nice'nEasy

Najja M oon, entitled "Y our M o m m as V oice in the Back of Y our H e ad". T his
project is funded w ith support fro m the K night Foundation.
Art Outside is presented by The Bass Museum of Art in partnership with the City
of Miami Beach Art in Public Places, Miami Beach Urban Studios-Florida
International University, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University and the
W South Beach. The Bass will handle all costs associated with acquiring,
commissioning and installing the Art Outside temporary works.
The above motion was made by Florencia Jimenez Marcos, seconded by Yolanda
Sanchez and passed unanimously.
