Convention Center Advisory Board Motion
The purpose of this letter to the Mayor and Commission is to provide an update regarding
a motion made during the December 1, 2020 Convention Center Advisory Board ("CCAB")
meeting:
Motion to recommend that the Miami Beach City Commission direct the City
Administration to provide regular updates on the status of the Convention Center
Hotel (the "Hotel") from staff and the hotel developer to the City Commission and
CCAB. Further to use all possible means to mitigate further delays in the pursuit
of the building and completion of the Hotel to preserve and protect the economic
viability of both the Miami Beach Convention Center and the City of Miami Beach
and the businesses and residents that significantly rely on the visitors and
expected revenue.
The motion was made by Peter Matos, seconded by Lee Zimmerman, and approved
unanimously.
The purpose of the special CCAB meeting was to receive information on the current status
of development of the Hotel by Terra Group. During the meeting, the CCAB also received
a report, prepared and presented by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitor's Bureau
("GMCVB"), on the status and estimated economic impact of potential bookings and lost
booking opportunities attributable to the Hotel.
Lastly, the CCAB unanimous voted to thank David Martin, of the Terra Group, for his
continuing efforts to complete the hotel.
