LTC 475-2020 COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout LTC # Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission Raul Aguila, Interim City Manager December 24, 2020 COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the Mayor and Commission with information regarding the coordinated actions and planning in the City of Miami Beach for the rollout of available vaccines in accordance with federal and state actions and guidance, with an emphasis on facilitating the inoculation of seniors in our elder buildings. VACCINE AVAILABILITY Jackson Memorial Hospital was one of five Florida hospitals that received the first shipment of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, and are responsible for distribution to area hospitals and facilities that are treating COVID-19 patients. Mount Sinai Medical Center received the Pfizer vaccine from Jackson and received the Moderna mRNA vaccine, as well, this past weekend. Their primary responsibility is to inoculate their staff in the ER and COVID treatment areas, followed by the senior population. On December 23, 2020, Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-315 regarding vaccine administration. This EO directs all COVID-19 providers to vaccinate three identified populations: (a) long-term care facility residents and staff; (b) persons 65 years of age or older; and (c) healthcare personnel with direct contact with COVID-19 patients. Hospital providers in receipt of the vaccine are authorized to distribute to those they deem at risk of exposure, which is why our first responders are being offered the doses in Phase 1. FACILITATING PUBLIC INOCULATION - ELDERLY For community inoculation, the City’s priority is to vaccinate seniors. Plans have been developed to first provide doses to elder residents who live in affordable housing and who wish to be vaccinated. The Office of Housing and Community Services and Transportation and Mobility Department have worked together to support Mount Sinai’s efforts and will be providing free transportation for these residents to and from the inoculation site at MSMC beginning as early as Monday of next week. This will be accomplished using low-floor buses. RJA/ATH/JRG/MR C: Rafael Granado, City Clerk DocuSign Envelope ID: B114C441-92E1-4533-8B8E-EC07954AC35D
