WHEREAS, serious traffic accidents in the City have prompted increased concern regarding roadway safety and the need for proactive evaluation of potential countermeasures; and WHEREAS, timely coordination between the Transportation and Mobility Department and the Miami Beach Police Department can ensure that crash -related data —such as collision patterns, vehicle behavior, pedestrian involvement, and environmental conditions —is promptly assessed to determine whether enhanced traffic control devices or safety improvements could prevent similar incidents; and WHEREAS, certain improvements —such as traffic signals, signage, lighting upgrades, geometric modifications, or other engineered solutions —often require feasibility analyses, warrant studies, or design evaluations prior to implementation; and WHEREAS, the City Commission seeks to establish a consistent process whereby, after any serious crash, the Administration evaluates site conditions and returns to the Commission to present findings and request funding for any necessary studies or safety enhancements. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to have the Transportation and Mobility Department collaborate with the Miami Beach Police Department following any serious traffic accident to identify whether traffic control devices or other safety interventions may be warranted, and further direct the Administration to return to the City Commission with any funding requests necessary to conduct studies or implement such safety measures.
