A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING BLUE
SCHOLARS INITIATIVE'S REQUEST FOR A WAIVER OF CITY
FEES, PENDING COMPLETION OF THE CITY'S APPLICATION
PROCESS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $5,000.00, FOR
FACILITY RENTAL FEES ($2,500.00) AND TECHNICAL FEES
($2,500.00) FOR THE USE OF THE MIAMI BEACH BANDSHELL
FOR THE "WORLD OCEAN CELEBRATION" TO BE HELD ON
JUNE 4, 2026.
WHEREAS, Blue Scholars Initiative (the "Organization") is a local nonprofit entity
whose mission is to engage, educate and empower public school fourth -graders through
hands-on and virtual marine science education, with a focus on Miami's iconic Biscayne
Bay; and
WHEREAS, the Organization produces the annual "World Ocean Celebration," a
10-day event that will showcase inspiring activities, environmental awareness, art
installations, and community engagement, all dedicated to celebrating and protecting our
one world ocean; and
WHEREAS, the Organization proposes to hold an event (the "Event") on June 4,
2026, at the Miami Beach Bandshell, as part of the "World Ocean Celebration"; and
WHEREAS, the Organization is obligated to pay City fees associated with the
Event, including Facility Rental Fees in the amount of $2,500.00 and Technical Fees in
the amount of $2,500.00, for a combined total amount not to exceed $5,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the Organization has demonstrated that securing sponsorship and
financial assistance is essential due to its nonprofit status and its commitment to offering
this community -focused Event; and
WHEREAS, a waiver of the above -referenced fees would alleviate financial
constraints, helping ensure that the Event remains accessible and continues to support
the City's sustainability and cultural engagement goals; and
WHEREAS, based upon the foregoing, the Mayor and City Commission approve
a waiver of the Facility Rental Fees and Technical Fees, pending completion of the City's
application process, in an amount not to exceed $5,000.00, for the use of the Miami Beach
Bandshell for the Event on June 4, 2026.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby approve Blue Scholars Initiative's request for a waiver of the Facility
Rental Fees and Technical Fees, pending completion of the City's application process, in
an amount not to exceed $5,000.00, for the use of the Miami Beach Bandshell for the
"World Ocean Celebration" to be held on June 4, 2026.
