A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATION TO EXPAND THE "FOREVER PROUD" LIGHTPOLE
BANNER INITIATIVE WITHIN THE ART DECO CULTURAL DISTR�CT,
SUBJECT TO FEASIBILITY AND AVAILABLE FUNDING.
WHEREAS, in October 2025, the City of Miami Beach installed twelve (12)
"Forever Proud" lightpole banners along Ocean Drive, 12th Street, and Washington
Avenue to celebrate LGBTQ+ visibility and support local businesses; and
WHEREAS, the banners, measuring 3 feet by 7 feet, received strong community
support and enhanced the vibrancy and visual appeal of the Art Deco Cultural District;
and
WHEREAS, the expansion of the "Forever Proud" banner initiative within the Art
Deco Cultural District would reinforce the City's commitment to inclusion, corridor
beautification, and support for local businesses; and
WHEREAS, the proposed expansion corridors include:
• Washington Avenue, from 12th Street to 11th Street;
• 11th Street, from Washington Avenue to Ocean Drive;
• Collins Avenue, from 11th to 12th Streets; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to authorize the expansion of
the initiative within the Art Deco Cultural District subject to feasibility and available
funding; and
WHEREAS, according to the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
and regional economic studies, approximately 1.65 million LGBTQ domestic visitors
support Miami-Dade's economy each year, generating an estimated $1.7 billion in direct
economic impact; and
WHEREAS, in addition to tourism expenditure, the LGBTQ community in South
Florida has an estimated annual purchasing power of over $8 billion, underscoring the
community's significant contribution to the regional economy; and
WHEREAS, Miami and Miami Beach consistently rank as one of the top U.S.
destinations for LGBTQ travelers, contributing to the region's global reputation as a
leading LGBTQ-friendly tourism hub.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby authorize the City Administration to expand the "Forever Proud"
lightpole banner initiative to adjacent streets within the Art Deco Cultural District, subject
to feasibility and available funding.
