A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING MAY AS NATIONAL
MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH AND DIRECTING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATION TO COMMEMORATE AND PROMOTE THE
MONTH'S RECOGNIZED OBSERVANCES ACROSS ALL CITY
COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission seek to honor the service, sacrifice,
and contributions of members of the United States Armed Forces, their families, and all
who support them, by declaring May as National Military Appreciation Month in the City
of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, National Military Appreciation Month is observed nationally each May
to recognize and pay tribute to active -duty service members, reservists, veterans, military
spouses, military children, and families of fallen patriots; and
WHEREAS, the month includes several long-standing observances recognizing
historic events, solemn remembrances, and vital contributions of those who have served
or supported the nation through military service; and
WHEREAS, these observances include:
• Loyalty Day (May 1) — reaffirming the nation's commitment to the United States;
• Victory in Europe (VE) Day (May 8) — marking the end of World War II in Europe;
• Military Spouse Appreciation Day (Friday before Mother's Day) — honoring the
critical role of military spouses in supporting service members and military families;
• Children of Fallen Patriots Day (May 13) — honoring the children of service
members who lost their lives in the line of duty;
• Armed Forces Day (third Saturday in May) — celebrating the men and women
currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces; and
• Memorial Day (last Monday in May) — honoring the men and women who died
while serving in the United States military; and
WHEREAS, recognizing these observances and sharing their significance through
City communication platforms —including social media, the City's website, newsletters,
and other public messaging —will help honor military families within the community and
reinforce the City's appreciation for their enduring sacrifices.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby declare May as National Military Appreciation Month and direct the
City Administration to commemorate and promote the month's recognized observances
across all City communication platforms.
