HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34295RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34295 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO INCLUDE A FULL-TIME MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS COORDINATOR POSITION FOR THE MIAMI BEACH FIRE DEPARTMENT (MBFD) AS AN ENHANCEMENT TO BE INCLUDED IN THE FISCAL YEAR 2027 BUDGET AND CARRIED FORWARD IN SUBSEQUENT FISCAL YEARS; AND FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PREPARE A BUDGET AMENDMENT TO FUND SUCH POSITION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE 2026 FISCAL YEAR. WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission recognize the critical importance of mental health and wellness services for first responders, including personnel within the Miami Beach Fire Department ("MBFD"); and WHEREAS, MBFD personnel regularly encounter high -stress, traumatic, and life -threatening situations that can lead to cumulative mental health impacts requiring specialized support; and WHEREAS, establishing a full-time Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator will strengthen the City's ability to provide dedicated, consistent, and professional mental -health -focused resources for MBFD staff; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire that this position be incorporated as an enhancement in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget to support the long-term wellbeing of the City's fire -rescue workforce; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission also wish to fund this position for the balance of the current fiscal year, to ensure that mental health and wellness services can be provided without delay. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission hereby directs the City Administration to include a full-time Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator position for the Miami Beach Fire Department as an enhancement to be included in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget and carried forward in subsequent fiscal years; and further directs the City Administration to prepare a budget amendment to fund such position for the remainder of the 2026 fiscal year and present the amendment for City Commission consideration at the earliest practicable meeting.
