A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATION TO OPEN CITY PARKING GARAGES FOR ALL
VEHICLES WHEN A SEVERE FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED FOR THE
CITY, AS A WAY TO ENHANCE FLOOD RESPONSE STRATEGIES
AND INFRASTRUCTURE RESILIENCE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach ("City") has experienced increasing incidents of
flooding due to storms, necessitating continuous improvements to the City's response strategies;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission find that it is necessary to open all public
parking garages whenever a severe flooding event is declared in the City; and
WHEREAS, at the June 26, 2024 City Commission meeting, the Mayor and City
Commission considered an item to enhance flood response strategies and infrastructure
resilience, including directing the City Administration to open City parking garages for all vehicles
when a severe flooding event is declared in the City; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission approved a motion directing the City
Administration to open all City parking garages when a severe flooding event is declared in the
City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the
City Administration to open City parking garages for all vehicles when a severe flood warning is
issued for the City, as a way to enhance flood response strategies and infrastructure resilience.
