A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION ("FDOT") TO DESIGN AND INSTALL "DO NOT
BLOCK THE BOX" PAVEMENT MARKINGS, AND ASSOCIATED
SIGNAGE, AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF ALTON ROAD AND DADE
BOULEVARD; AND FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE SECRETARY OF THE
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, JARED W. PERDUE,
P.E., AND THE DISTRICT SIX SECRETARY, DANIEL IGLESIAS, P.E.
WHEREAS, Alton Road is a major north -south state roadway under the jurisdiction
of the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT"), and Dade Boulevard is a significant
east -west corridor under the jurisdiction of Miami -Dade County, with both roadways being
located within the City of Miami Beach ("City"); and
WHEREAS, the intersection of Alton Road and Dade Boulevard experiences
substantial vehicular congestion, particularly during peak traffic periods each morning and
each afternoon, and also during many special events and high impact periods; and
WHEREAS, vehicles blocking the intersection while facing a steady red traffic signal
impedes the orderly flow of traffic, creates unnecessary delays, and adversely affects public
safety by obstructing emergency vehicle access and pedestrian crossings; and
WHEREAS, blocked intersections can result in traffic backups extending onto
adjacent roadways and neighborhood streets, thereby worsening congestion throughout
surrounding areas of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, "Do Not Block the Box" pavement markings and associated signage are
recognized traffic control measures designed to discourage vehicles from obstructing
intersections and to improve traffic operations and overall public safety; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to enhance traffic circulation and
improve safety conditions at the intersection of Alton Road and Dade Boulevard through the
implementation of such traffic control measures; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission hereby urge the FDOT to design and
install "Do Not Block the Box" pavement markings, and associated signage, at the
intersection of Alton Road and Dade Boulevard in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to
the Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation, Jared W. Perdue, and the FDOT
District Six Secretary, Daniel Iglesias,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby urge the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") to design and
install "Do Not Block the Box" pavement markings, and associated signage, at the
intersections of Alton Road and Dade Boulevard; and further, directing the City Clerk to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Secretary of the Florida Department of
Transportation, Jared W. Perdue, P.E., and the District Six Secretary, Daniel Iglesias, P.E.
