HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34323RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34323 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO MAKE FUNDING OF THE GALERIA EXHIBITION PROGRAMMING, IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000, A PRIORITY DURING THE CITY'S FISCAL YEAR 2027 BUDGET PROCESS; AND FURTHER DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO INCLUDE FUNDING FOR THE GALERIA EXHIBITION PROGRAMMING AS A BUDGET ENHANCEMENT ON A GOING -FORWARD BASIS FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION DURING THE FISCAL YEAR 2027 BUDGET PROCESS. WHEREAS, the Office of the Mayor and City Commission has proposed a new exhibition entitled Miami Beach in Motion: Celebrating Wellness & Fitness in Miami Beach, intended to highlight Miami Beach's unique outdoor culture, scenic public spaces, and the City's emerging brand as a global hub for wellness and fitness tourism; and WHEREAS, the exhibition will run from January through September 2027 at Galeria Ocean Drive, continuing the successful legacy of prior major installations including Miami Beach FREEDOM: A Celebration of the United States' 250th Anniversary and Ocean Rescue 100: A Centennial Tribute to the Miami Beach Lifeguards; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes that Galeria Ocean Drive functions as a high -visibility promotional hub, enabling integration with community events and enhancing the City's wellness -focused branding initiatives; and WHEREAS, previous exhibitions at the Galeria have demonstrated strong public engagement, including the WWII in Miami Beach and Art Deco 100 installations, each of which attracted more than 100,000 visitors, and social -media activations that have generated tens of millions of impressions, including the Art Deco "Swing" feature; and WHEREAS, the proposed $50,000 budget will support essential exhibition components including design, fabrication and installation of 34 exhibits, research and licensing, social -media activations, and ongoing maintenance for the duration of the installation; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to ensure that funding for this exhibition is prioritized for FY 2027, and that ongoing Galeria Exhibition Programming be treated as a recurring budget enhancement to support the City's cultural programming and branding efforts on a continuous basis. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to make funding of the Galeria Exhibition Programming, in the amount of $50,000, a priority during the City's Fiscal Year 2027 budget process; and further direct the City Administration to include funding of the Galeria Exhibition Programming as a budget enhancement on a going -forward basis for consideration by the Mayor and City Commission during the Fiscal Year 2027 budget process.
