HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34324RESOLUTION NO, 2026-34324 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO IMMEDIATELY DISCONTINUE THE USE OF, AND RECALL, THE INCORRECT UNIFORMS ISSUED TO PARKING ENFORCEMENT SPECIALISTS AND TO REPORT BACK AT THE JULY 22, 2026 CITY COMMISSION MEETING WITH AN UPDATE AND RECOMMENDED SOLUTION. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach ("City") provides official uniforms to its Parking Enforcement Specialists to ensure clarity of authority, consistency of appearance, professionalism, and public trust; and WHEREAS, Section 316.640, Florida Statutes, identifies "Parking Enforcement Specialists" as the appropriate job title for employees performing parking enforcement duties, reaffirming the importance of accurate and statutorily compliant uniform identification; and WHEREAS, Chapter 30 of the Miami -Dade County Code also refers to these employees as "Parking Enforcement Specialists," as does Chapter 106 (and elsewhere) in the City of Miami Beach Code of Laws and Ordinances; and WHEREAS, the City recently provided official uniforms to its Parking Enforcement Specialists, which uniforms inaccurately label such employees as "Parking Specialists"; and WHEREAS, the continued use of incorrect uniforms (identifying these employees merely as "Parking Specialists") may result in public confusion, inconsistencies in enforcement presentation, and diminished confidence in the City's parking operations; and WHEREAS, the continued use of these incorrect uniforms may also undermine the perceived authority of Parking Enforcement Specialists when interacting with the public in furtherance of their official duties and responsibilities; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission find it necessary and appropriate to immediately discontinue the use of such incorrect uniforms and recall them from circulation until proper and approved uniforms are issued; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission also desire to receive a report, via an item placed on the agenda by the City Administration, at the July City Commission meeting detailing the status of the uniform recall and the recommended next steps for implementation of corrected uniforms. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, hereby direct the City Administration to immediately discontinue the use of, and recall, the incorrect uniforms issued to Parking Enforcement Specialists and to report back at the July 22, 2026 City Commission meeting with an update and recommended solution.
