A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE
ADMINISTRATION TO SUSPEND THE ISSUANCE OF RED-LIGHT
CAMERA CITATIONS AND NOTICES OF VIOLATION FOR RIGHT
TURNS ON RED LIGHTS CITYWIDE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF
THE INTERSECTION OF 17TH STREET AND ALTON ROAD.
WHEREAS, at the June 24, 2026 City Commission Meeting, the Mayor and City
Commission discussed eliminating red-light camera citations and notices of violation issued for
right turns on a red light; and
WHEREAS, the item sponsors expressed concern over the overwhelming number of
residents being cited while making right turns on red lights; and
WHEREAS, the City is dedicated to safeguarding its residents and visitors by ensuring the
safety of roadways, streets, and sidewalks; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department recommended maintaining enforcement
at the intersection of 171h Street and Alton Road where right turns on red lights are already
prohibited; and
WHEREAS, following this recommendation vehicles traveling westbound on 17" Street to
northbound Alton Road are excluded from suspension of red-light camera citations and notices of
violation issued for right turns on red lights, which shall continue to be issued; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission
hereby direct the Administration to suspend the issuance of red-light camera citations and notices
of violation for right turns on red lights Citywide with the exception of the intersection of 1 r Street
and Alton Road.
