Since 1988, Jane's focus has been on volunteer work, including projects for Temple Beth Sholom (High Holy Days
Hunger Project for the Daily Bread Food Bank and annual Mitzvah Day tee-shirt drive for the Community
Partnership for the Homeless). Certified by Learn to Read Volunteers to teach adult literacy (currently Project
LEAD). Read weekly 10 years for WLRN Radio Reading Service and sat on their Advisory Board, was vice
President of the Board of Cushman School Parent Association. Currently: Secretary of Board of Directors of the
Miami Beach Community Health Center; Member of the Board of Miami Design Preservation League; Member of
the Board of PACT (People Acting for Community Together). Participates ongoing in toy drives, sweater drives,
sneaker drives, backpack and school supply drives for needy children. A cancer survivor, Jane volunteers in the
Survivor's tent at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. In 2006 was honored as a "Woman Worth Knowing"
by the Miami Beach Commission on the Status of Women.
In September 1982 Jane was hired by Andrew Capitman and Mark Shantzis, the original pioneers of the Art Deco
District, to assist in the first hotel restoration of the Carlyle Hotel on Ocean drive. After getting a Florida Real Estate
license, she became construction liaison, leasing agent and property manager for 30's Promenade -formerly the
H.S. Kress Five & Dime at 1201 Washington Avenue, the first commercial restoration in the district. Jane assisted
the New York club owners who restored the Cinema Theater and created South Beach's first premiere nightclub,
Club Z (now, after many incarnations, "Mansion"). She procured work for struggling artists such as Woody Von
Dracek and Victor Farinas who would pay her with artwork for lack of money. Moving from the Victor Hotel to the
Amsterdam Palace (now the Versace mansion) and then to the Locust apartments (Cafe Des Arts building) Jane
got rent reduction by encouraging other young renters to populate further south on Ocean Drive. She worked for
both Scott Robins and Craig Robinson various hotel and building renovations and served on the Young
Professionals committee of the City of Miami Beach. She met her husband Saul during the historic restoration craze
in the mid 80's when he began to rehab apartment buildings in the Flamingo Park neighborhood.
Jane's pre-Miami Beach career included: Assistant to Corporate Controller at Sapolin Paints Corporation in
Danbury, CT. where she computerized all depts.
Manager of Sales Services for Aziza Cosmetics (Chesebrough Ponds Corp.) and Marketing Consultant to
Micrognosis for an innovative money market trading floor system that revolutionized the entire industry. Other work
included various freelance writing projects such as employee manuals, tech writing, product descriptions and
instruction booklets.
She is a graduate of Miami Beach Leadership Academy as well as Miami Beach Citizen Police Academy.
