To serve on the Miam i Beach Human Rights Commission in an effort to serve my community and
promote equal rights for a ll residents.
COMMUNITY ACTIVISM EXPERIENCE & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Organ ized a rally to promote LGBT and immigration rights at Miami Beach City Hall. This event
was attended by local, elected officials and covered by all local media
Spoke as a key note speaker and on panels , at all major univ ersities and colleges throughout
Florida on the subject of Don t Ask Don t Tell and its implications on na tional defense and
human rights
Has s poke n on national and local n ews programs regarding Don t Ask Don t Tell
Raised awareness on Don t Ask Don t Tell and put public pressure on Senator Webb of Virginia
by walking more than two hundred and fifty miles from the navy base at Norfolk, Virginia to the
U.S. Capital. The walk was covered by media both in Vir ginia and nationally. More than 10,000
letters were collected and delivered to the Senator s office, an effort that would eventually
persuade the only undecided Democratic Senator to vote in favor of repeal
Worked as a veterans orga nizer and consultant for the Human Rights Campaign, overseeing and
organizing efforts for the entire state
Led the Human Rights Campaign in t he Miami Beach Gay Pride parade
Lobbie d on Capitol Hill with Congressional Leadership on numerous occasions for LGBT rights.
Was the first veteran discharged because of the DADT p olicy , to meet with President Obama
immediately after the repeal was s igned in to law
