Memo 003-2011 Fisher Park Playground i MIAMI BEAC ? .. its • y Office of the City Manager r apt',. MEMORANDUM eJ`` %M t,F //003 -2011 TO: Edward Tobin, Commissioner FROM: Jorge M.-.Gonzalez, City Manager DATE: February .24, 2011 SUBJECT: Requested status update of the Fisher Park Playground and Shade Structure Project r 'The following information is in response to your recent request concerning the above referenced subject. The Fisher Park project is funded in the amount of $210,100 as part of the adopted 20.11 -2015 Capital Budget & 5 -year Capital Improvement Plan. This includes $150,000 in construction funds for the playground area; $56,600 in construction funds for the shade system; and $3,500 in contingency monies (from the Quality of Life Fund). Attached for your information are two capital budget sheets related to this project. Originally this project was to consist of a new shade system only; however, after conducting preliminary field studies for the new shade system it was determined that the new system would negatively impact some large existing trees and the playground area needed improvements as well. As a- result, the shade system project was placed on hold while an additional capital budget request to improve the playground area was submitted and subsequently funded. As of this date, the Parks and Recreation team has moved forward with the design phase of the project and at thisaime has ordered a site survey. They are working with a playground vendor to develop preliminary sketches of a new playground concept plan. This project will be designed and the construction managed in -house by the Parks and Recreation Department's Greenspace Management Division; Rhonda Gracie Landscape'Projects Coordinator will act as the Designer / Project Manager. We expect to present the draft plan to the Planning Department and then the community for input in early March 2011 - , with construction to follow subsequent to approval of the final design. The construction timeline is approximately 120 days from approval of design. The playground, safety surface and shade structure are.the only improvements planned and funded for Fisher , Please advise if there are questions, comments or concerns. J MG /H M F /KS /J O /rg c:.
