(Sponsored by Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez) 2 OFFICE OF THE MAYOR AND COMMISSION MEMORANDUM TO:Mayor Philip Levine and Commissioners FROM: MichaelGrieco,Commissioner DATE: February 10,2016 SUBJECT: Direction to Gity Administration to relating to Historic Hotel Unit Sizes occupancy lnclude in Proposed Ordinance language relating to maximum On September 2,2015,1 placed a referral item relating to Historic Hotel Unit Sizes to amend the RM- 1, RM-2, RM- 3, CD-2 and CD-3 District Regulations, to modify the requirements for minimum hotel room size for historic hotels to maintain their original unit size, rather than having to increase their unit size to meet current standards. On October 7, 2015, this item was heard by the Land Use and Development Committee, and the Committee recommended that the City Commission transmit the proposed ordinance to the Planning Board. On December 9, 2015, the City Commission referred the item to the Planning Board. On January 26,2016, the Planning Board recommended approval of the draft ordinance, without modification. I am asking that the City Commission direct the Administration to slightly modify the ordinance for first reading at the March City Commission meeting to include a maximum occupancy per room of no more than four (4) persons for every 200 square feet. The revised ordinance would be heard on March 9, 2016. It has been proposed that the location of the ADA playground and the SCF Wellness Center would both benefit by being in close proximity to each other. ln my opinion, since the final location of the Wellness Center is still being discussed, and because the cost of construction of the playground is significant and has been identified on the Capital budget, further action on the playground should be deferred until the location of the Wellness Center has been resolved. Since the Neighborhoods Committee will be reviewing potential locations for the Wellness Center at its February 12 meeting, my request to the full commission is to also refer the location of the ADA playground to that committee for consideration in conjunction with the Wellness Center siting, recognizing that if the Neighborhood Committee agrees, then that the city manager will be asked to defer the city's application which is currently on the HPB's preliminary March B meeting agenda.
