ATTENTION ALL LOBBYISTS
Chapter 2, Article VII, Division 3 of the City Code of Miami Beach entitled "Lobbyists" requires the
registration of all lobbyists with the City Clerk prior to engaging in any lobbying activity with the City
Commission, any City Board or Committee, or any personnel as defined in the subject Code sections.
Copies of the City Code sections on lobbyists laws are available in the City Clerk's Office. Questions
regarding the provisions of the Ordinance should be directed to the Office of the City Attorney.
Special note: In order to ensure adequate public consideration, if necessary, the Mayor and City Commission may
move any agenda item to the alternate meeting date which will only be held if needed. In addition, the Mayor and
City Commission may, at their discretion, adjourn the Commission Meeting without reaching all agenda items.
WORKSHOP ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION
Mayor Bower called the Commission Workshop to order at 11:51:27 a.m.

1. Discussion Regarding The Critical Role Historic Preservation Has Played In The Economic
Revitalization And Quality Of Life Of Miami Beach.
(Requested by Mayor Matti Herrera Bower)
ACTION : Discussion held.
Jorge Gomez, Assistant City Manager, thanked Nancy Liebman, Jeff Donnelly, Saul Gross and
Tony Goldman, who unfortunately could not be here today, also Michael Kinerk, Andrew
Capitman and Victor Diaz, as well as William Cary, Richard Lorber, Thomas Mooney, Debbie
Tackett, James Murphy and James Seiberling. He gave a historical background of the
architectural legacy and style of the City, and the grassroots movement that helped foster that
sense of legacy, creating something special for Miami Beach.
A PowerPoint presentation was made on Preservation and Zoning accomplishments.

William Cary, Assistant Director, Planning Department, and Michael Kinerk, Miami Design
Preservation League (MDPL) member, made the presentation.
Andrew Capitman, Barbara Capitman’s son thanked the City Commission for holding the
workshop and spoke about his involvement with his mother and the historic architecture of the
City.
Victor Diaz spoke about the continued support for historic preservation.
Mayor Bower explained that there is a ballot question in August regarding preservation.
Jorge Gomez, Assistant City Manager, added that the ballot questions have been placed in the
Neighborhood/Community Affairs and Land Use Development Committee agendas.
Commission Workshop adjourned at 11:51:04 a.m.
