University of Texas Health Science Center School of lUledicine lnstructor ACES Program 2009 I taught the medical students in the second year class the musculoskeletal exam and common musculoskeletal injuries in each orthopedic su bspecialty. Hunter Academic Society Sociefy Director (2008-2009), Mentorship Program Director (2006-2008), and Clinical Sk//s Trainer (2006-2Ne) Academic Societies provide clinicalskills training to first and second year medical students, as well as an organized mentoring system for the students. As a trainer, I aided in teaching the underclassmen all aspects of history and physical exans. As a mentorship coordinator, I paired underclassmen with upperclassmen. The upperclassmen are a resource for general questions, advice, books, and notes. Formal events, such as meetings on clinical note writing, clinical experiences, discussion of research opportunities, and social gatherings were also arranged. A database of notes and files for the Surgery clerkship, lnternal Medicine clerkship, and USMLE exams was compiled in my two years of service at this position. My fourth year, I was appointed Director of the Hunter Society. As clirector I oversaw clinical skills training, student clinic, community service events, and mentoring activities for a group of 60 nredical students throughout the year. Hispanic American Medical Student Association (HAMSA) Treasurcr (200e2009) HAMSA is a student-run organization that helps create awareness of the Hispanic population and its impact on the health of the South Floricla population. The group organizes the yearly Hispanic discussion panel where faculty members discuss their experiences with Hispanic patients. The organization also helps students at the university with Spanish language classes. A thorough medical Spanish transtation packet was developed for the students as well. The funding is collected by donations and grants. HAMSA arranged for Florida's first State Surgeon General, Dr. Ana M. Viamonte, to address the students and faculty at the university. Orthopedic Student lnterest Group (OStc) Member (2005-2009) A student-run organization that reviews anatomy and common orthopedic injuries at its meetings. At the end of the year a panel of residents discusses their residency experience and the process of matching in Orthopedics. 21 Department of Community Service (DOCS) Health Fair Pafticipant DOCS is a student-managed community service organization that concentrates on serving the uninsured community through larious health fairs throughout South Florida. I participated in the Tamiami Fair in Pediatrics, as well as the Pompano Beach Fair in Ophthalmotogy. Caring Hearts Volunteer (2006-2007) A student organization that participated in arts and crafts ercry Tuesday and Thursday with the patients on the pediatric ward, as well as the students at the Debbie School located at Jackson Memorial Mailman Center. There were 15 medical students that alternated the days.
