Solar Energy_March to May 1979SOLAR ENERGY 3 Date Memo #7412, report on Solar Photovoltaic Energy 3/21/79 Project for the Convention Center (requested by Commissioner Malek). For information only. Messrs. Harry Plissner and Milton Sirkin ap- 5/16/79 peared in support of request that Commission endorse 1) concept of a pilot project to study harnessing of energy in Gulf Stream, and 2) for a $5,000 contribution to be made to AeroViron- ment, Inc., for this purpose. City Atty. ad- vised that Commission could legally authorize expenditure of monies to engage a lobbyist to promote the Coriolis project on the basis of its being for a public purpose; however, it is il- legal to allocate City funds to be spent by SOLAR ENERGY 4 (continued) Date AeroVirnoment, Inc., for lobby purposes, as has been requested. Mayor Haber suggested to Messrs. Plissner and Sirkin that they meet with City Atty. prior to June 6, 1979 meeting to formulate al- ternatives which would meet with all legalities, and that matter be placed on June 6, 1979 agenda. Res. #79-15916 adopted, endorsing concept of Coriolis project, and requesting aid of State of Florida's Congressional Delegation in obtaining Federal funding for this project. Commissioner Malek suggested that as another alternative, Messrs. Plissner and Sirkin seek funding from Chamber of Commerce and other private organiza- tions. Mr. Plissner referred to Committee's recommendation to proceed with a $30,000 5/16/79 SOLAR ENERGY 5 (continued) Date feasibility study to consider use of F. P. & L. Co.'s facilities for distribution of power. Com- mission approved referring this to Budget Advisory Committee for its next meeting, and for their com- ments and recommendations to be submitted during forthcoming budget hearings. V. M. Friedman in- vited public to attend Energy Committe's meeting on June 14, 1979, at which time a F. P. & L. Co. representative will answer questions concerning impact of nuclear energy and nuclear reactors on the environment.
