Bell T&T Co. in CMB during a period of an absence of a franchise agreement. No action taken by Commission. (Requested by Commissioner Wikler) requesting 11/15/78 and directing administrative officials of CMB to explore and investigate the practicality of granting a telephone franchise to a Telephone Co., other than S. Bell T & T Co. No action taken by Commission. City Mgr. reported outcome of initial discus- 11/15/78 sion with S. Bell to the effect that 1) Company SOUTHERN BELL TELEPHONE SYSTEM 30 (continued) Date will pay to City $50,000; 2) City will release restraint on permits; 3) City and Telephone Co. will begin meaningful discussion regarding franchise operations in City. Acceptance of $50,000 being a good faith demonstration on part of Telephone Co., without prejudice to either party in conduct of negotiations. A motion was made by Commissioner Malek to accept recommen- dations and was duly seconded; however, after comments by Mayor, Commissioner Malek expressed the wish to withdraw his motion. Additional discussion ensued, with result that Commission voted to allow him to withdraw his motion. Thereafter, following additional dialogue, and a recapitulation by Commissioner Weinstein of 11/15/78
