Beaches_June 1973 to January 1975BEACHES 75 Meeting Date Councilman Weinstein asked that when bid specs tor major concessions the Administration take and implement, those suggestions made by public who use the facilities; City get best dollar -wise concession but high standards to be maintained. 6/29/73 Consideration of bids on operation of beach concessions for a 5 -yr period. Memo 4178A, deferred to 9/19/73 meeting. 9/5/73 Council approved Councilman Dr. Haber's motion to delete from 1973-74 budget $15,000 previously committed funds, for a Beach Party. 9/5/73 BEACHES 77 Meeting Date that efforts were made to secure funds from Corps of Engineers to assist in cleaning up these beaches. Mayor Hall said condition of beach has not improved (South Shore area) and he requested City Atty. to report at next meeting with recommendations re: action the City can take to compel Fed. BEACHES 76 Meeting Date Res. 73-14124 adopted authorizing execution of contract with Nugget Concessions Inc. for operation of beach concessions for 5 -yr. period to 9/30/78, at bid of $91,500., on condition that agree- ment include provision for safety of user, concessionaire must provide service of placing umbrellas in sand on beach. 9/19/73 City Mgr. authorized up to $10,000 to immediately clean up all beaches in South Shore area, with rocks from dredging operations. Mayor Hall suggested County Mgr. be contacted for financial aid from County for this project, due to fact that operations were by Dade County and Corps of Engineers, dredging. Administration advised BEACHES resolution so it will be more forceful and take into consideration fact that Dade County has assumed certain responsibilities re: deepening of Miami Harbor. Copies of resolution to be forwarded to Metro and Internal Improvement Board of State so they may enact similar resolutions, and to Congressmen and Senators representing 3/20/74 City in Washington. BEACHES Corps of Engineers damage to City Beaches - Mayor Rosen requested the City Mgr. to place on the 10/2/74 agenda, an item concerning possible filing of a lawsuit against the Corps of Engineers re: damages to City beaches. Metro -Commissioner Harvey Ruvin said he thought that the Corps had acknow- ledged responsibility, and he was therefore requested to contact the City Atty concerning possibility of the City's joining with the Co. in a lawsuit against the Corps. Petition submitted by Mr. Sidney Tenenbaum to 11/6/74 enact an ord. to help keep M.B. clean by pro- hibiting picnics in parks or beaches. Referred to Parks & Rec Committee & Admin. 5/1/74 80 Date 9/19/74 BEACHES Setting of Erosion Control Line - Public Hearing held and concluded. Public Works Director authorized to forward technical information, as prepared, to State and County authorities. Interested persons in audience were advised 1/8/75 that this matter will be considered by the Parks and Recreation Committee at its meeting to be held on Jan. 14, and that matter will be on the Jan. 15th agenda. Admin. requested to post signs in all areas affected by action taken by Council. 84 Date 1/15/75 Mr. Ted Kanov appeared and complained about 1/15/75 the condition of the beaches on the north end of the City. He was advised that Mayor Rosen and Council- man Dr. Wikler were planning to appear before the Dade Co. Commission relative to the problem of beach maintenance.
