I would also be very interested in serving on the Miami Beach Human Rights Committee, if a vacancy should arise. I moved to Miami Beach — from Key West to accept a professional position in Miami two and a half years ago. While I have moved on from that particular job, Miami Beach remains my home and I am committed to our island city for the long haul. I adore Miami Beach in every way — the political discourse and activity, the administration, the many parks, outdoor venues and the beach, the arts scene and events, and the joy and challenges of living in such a busy, complex, culturally vibrant and diverse place. As I wrap up participation in the 2018 Spring session of Leadership Academy, I would like offer my skillset and experience for the good of our community. I am a former consumer and victim's rights litigation attorney. In 2010 I transitioned from the practice of law into nonprofit and government leadership in the areas of substance abuse and mental health and intellectual/developmental disabilities. As you well know, these fields intersect with the wide array of systems of care related to children's welfare, homelessness/housing and access to jobs, health care and other amenities for our most vulnerable neighbors. I now consult in these areas and am particularly interested in issues of accessibility, inclusion and integration as necessary building blocks for sustaining and guaranteeing strong, resilient, fiscally strong communities. But these interests go beyond paid work. I also have: 1) volunteer, philanthropic, and pro bono experience; 2) a strong background in community service; 3) individual and team membership efficacy and reliability; and 4) the desire and ability to serve. I can effectively communicate, cultivate, collaborate with and positively influence different types of stakeholders with an acute sensitivity to cultural and other distinctions. In fact I enjoy it, even when it is hard. If you have any questions or concerns, I would be happy to answer and address them; there is much a redacted resume cannot reflect. Thank you for taking the time to review my materials. I plan on attending the City Commission meeting on Wednesday, April 25th for the Leadership "graduation." I look forward to the brief opportunity to meet you then.
