Sheila Duffy -Lehrman
Sheila is an award winning writer, producer and director for the last 25 years.
The recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious George Foster
Peabody Award, and multiple Emmy, Addy, and Telly awards, her interesting and
unique career has taken her from Capitol Hill to TV news and ultimately to
advertising, marketing, and life as a digital technology entreprenuer.
Since 1995, Ms. Duffy -Lehrman has worked to establish Tropic Survival
Advertising and Marketing; a full service agency with a broad regional, national
and international client base.
Not only is Sheila C.O.O. of Tropic Survival, she is also a Founder of CometAds,
an ad technology company and digital agency, as well as a Founder of YuVie, a
new mobile social media selfie app allowing users to create and socially share
premium branded videos.
Sheila has exhibited this type of entrepreneurial spirit and tenacity her entire
professional career.
In the 1980s, first on Capitol Hill as senior professional congressional committee
staff, then as a journalist with CNN and NBC based out of Washington, D.C., her
legislative work and investigative reports have resulted in groundbreaking
legislation and saved lives.
A 1981 graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in
Gerontology, Ms. Duffy -Lehrman began her career working in the U.S. House of
Representatives, becoming the youngest senior professional staff ever to the
Chairman of the Select Committee on Aging. She was responsible for oversight
of fraud and deceptive trade practices, low-income poverty and housing issues.
Her work led to helping stop abuses in the funeral, insurance and home
healthcare industries.
Ms. Duffy -Lehrman came to TV news when her investigative work on Capitol Hill
brought her to the attention of CNN's investigative unit. Her consumer, health
and investigative reports received national recognition, including the George
Foster Peabody Award for researching an Emmy award winning series on the
accuracy of medical laboratory testing, an Emmy for a documentary on trauma
care in South Florida, and numerous other journalism awards.
