LABOR MANAGEMENT MEETINGS - MARCH 12, 2003

In an effort to identify and resolve concerns and issues before they become grievances,
Labor Management Meetings should be conducted at least on a monthly basis, when
necessary. In order to assist you with conducting Labor Management meetings, the Office
of Labor Relations in assistance with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service
(FMCS), will be conducting a meeting entitled, "How to Conduct a Labor Management
Meeting." This meeting will be held on March 12, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at
the Miami Beach Convention Center, Hall C, Room 224.
For City Representatives:
All Department/Division Heads are strongly encouraged to attend
management or supervisors that are involved in Union issues.

For Union Representatives:
FOP, GSA and IAFF may bring a maximum of 4 Union Representatives. AFSCME and
CWA may bring a maximum of 7 Union Representatives. Coordination of Union
representatives' attendance should be handled by the Union Presidents. The City expects
that representatives must come from different Departments/Divisions. It is the
responsibility of the Union Presidents:
1. To call Michael Reyes by February 21,2003, with a list of those attending from your
Union (up to maximum).
2. Ensure the representatives you choose have been approved for time away from
their regular duties, and
3. For CWA and AFSCME - ensure that the selected representatives must come from
different Departments/Divisions.

'~How would you rate your communication with your Union or Management
Team?

Do you know the proper protocol in grievances?

Who should be attending your Labor/Management Meeting and how often
should they be held?

What are the appropriate topics for a Labor/Management Meeting?
The answers to these questions and more will be answered at this session. Please
remember to bring you ideas/questions to this all important meeting!
Department/Division Heads and Union Presidents must confirm your attendance and those
you have scheduled for this meeting, along with confirmation that the Union
representatives have been approved for absence from their regular duties by the
appropriate Department/Division Director, with Michael Reyes at x6654, no later than
February 21, 2003.
