Dear Mayor Gelber,
I would like to apply for an appointment to the Sister Cities Program for Almonte, Spain. I am
interested in the position since, although I have been a Miami Beach resident for over 20 years,
both of my parents are from Spain and we spend Summers there with my family. I would like to
increase the level of cultural exchange between Almonte and Miami Beach. Projects I would like
to lead within the Program include an exchange of local public art between the cities and a
cultural exchange mission of city leaders.
I have served two terms in the Miami Beach Affordable Housing Committee. I have relationships
with the Consulate of Spain in Miami and the Spain Tourist Office. Professionally, I am founding
partner of Alsis Funds, a Miami Beach based $400 million investment fund that invests in Latin
America and Spain. We currently own an office building in downtown Madrid and invested in a
manufacturer in Galicia. My wife, Florencia Jimenez-Marcos is also active in the community as
chair of the Miami Beach personnel board, past chair of Friends of New World Symphony and
trustee, and past president of Friends of North Beach Elementary.
I look forward to getting to know Almonte, its people, and increasing our cultural ties.
