Hispanic Affairs Committee, Cultural Arts Council, Commission on the Status of Women, Marine Authority and
Sister Cities
As a Hispanic woman, I brought in a different perspective on many issues affecting the city. In this committee
UNIDAD found tremendous support when it was being founded. We saw later how important UNIDAD and
the CMB Hispanic Community Center has been to so many. I was part of this committee that brought support
to UNIDAD. I was elected chair of the Hispanic Affairs Committee and continued contributing in many other
boards supporting the issues that were relevant and important at the time.

•Why are you interested in serving on the City Commission
As a longtime resident and property owner in the City of Miami Beach, this is the place I call home. The first
City I lived in upon arriving from Cuba as a five- year-old child. I was lucky to marry a man with deep roots as
well in Miami Beach whose father owned a shoe store on Lincoln Rd. for 45 years. We are a family that
loves its city, and this is where our daughter was born. I am honored and privileged to live in this great city
and want to contribute to making it even better.

•How does your education and/or experience complement the powers and duties of the City
Commission?
As a political Science major with extensive knowledge on the issues affecting our community, I believe
I will contribute in a very positive manner to the commission. As a Hispanic woman who is a property owner,
a mother, a wife, a professional very involved in civic, charitable and educational organizations, I am certain
that I will be able to sit alongside the honorable Mayor Gelber and the fantastic group of talented
commissioners that currently serve our city. I will work together in a cohesive manner to continue making this
city the wonderful place it is.
