Biography:
Born to Cuban parents and raised on Miami Beach, curator, cultural producer, and writer Gladys-
Katherina Hernando spent many years participating in the art community of Los Angeles organizing
exhibitions in local and international galleries, public spaces, and on the web. In 2015 alongside
two other female curators she created and developed the nonprofit art space JOAN in Los
Angeles. Alongside her experience producing exhibitions, programs, fundraisers, and events, she is
adept at independent academic research and is well-versed in the knowledge of music history,
architecture and design, website and logo design/branding, and the workings of contemporary art
institutional structures. Since 2006 she has travelled to her family’s hometown of Guantánamo,
Cuba and is knowledgeable in the history of Cuba and the Cuban Revolution. She also collects
vintage typewriters and loves to dance.
