George Neary has been Associate Vice President of Cultural Tourism for the Greater
Miam i Convention & Visitors Bureau since 1998. He is in charge of the creation and
implementation of a new art s and cultural program for Miami-Dade County. He directs
promotional program s which encourage and increase visitor attendance at local cultural
events and attractions. His job also includes creating linkages and part nership between
Greater Miam i businesses and the art s comm unity. His targets are cultural tourism,
heritage tourism and gay & lesbian tourism.
Prior his current position, George was the Executive Director of the Miami Design
Preservation League of Miam i Beach, Florida, where he was responsible for creating
marketing and public outreach program s to preserve the historic Art Deco District, better
known as South Beach for seven years. He is currently serving as a Trustee for Dade
Heritage Trust, a past Trustee of Miami-Dade Art in Public Places, a board member of
the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, Chair of The Miam i Beach Sister Cities
International Miami Beach Comm ittee, and a mem ber of The Miami Beach Cultural Art s
Coun cil. Additionally, he serves on the Miami Beach Gay Pride Comm ittee, is a member
of the OutGam es 2017 comm ittee, the largest LGBT sporting event in the world;
consultant to Mayor's LGBT Business Enhancement Comm ittee, holds membership in
the Black Archives is a founding board member of the Greater Miam i Gay & Lesbian
Cham ber of Comm erce and is an Advisor from Florida to The National Trust for Historic
Preservation in W ashington, D.C. He is an adjunct professor at Miami Dade College and
the Chair of the Board of Advisors at Design and Ar chitecture Senior High School.
He was President of Neary Enterprise in Brooklyn, New York, which created, directed
and administrated marketing, advertising and promotional plans. He was Director of U.S.
Marketing for AFS Intercultural Programs, Inc. the International student and teacher
exchan ge program in New York. George was with the Peace Corps for seven years as
training and orientation coordinator, recruiter/publicist and a volunteer in St. Vincent &
The Grenadines, West Indies.
He received his B.A. from St. An selm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, and has
been involved in man y comm unity organizations over the years.
