Garcia achievements, awards, & recognitions February 2013: Became Animal control officer certified in the state of Florida under FACA (Florida Animal Control Association) October 29Th, 2014: Mayor Philip Levine recognized my work with rescuing animals that I had been doing for over a decade on my own, greatly improving the welfare of all animals in the city of Miami Beach. for my work rescuing and advocating for animals Mayor Levine presented me with a “Key to the city of Miami Beach” & a total amount of $10,000 collected in private donations to pay off an existing vet bill in that sum at one of my local veterinary offices. May 04th, 2017: Chiefs coin awarded in recognition of facilitating and helping solve the case of “Lily” the Yorkshire canine who was beaten to death inside the Publix parking garage at 1920 West Ave July 26th, 2017: Secondary Chiefs coin awarded in recognition of facilitating and helping solve the case of “Strushie” the cat who was shot twice with arrows to the head and neck. Strushie died as a result of the injuries inflicted on him July 26th, 2017: Received a proclamation from the city of Miami Beach for my involvement in the case & this date was also declared “Strushie’ s day” in the city of Miami Beach August-October 2017: Was selected to teach a 90 minute block in QMR about Animal cruelty and advocacy. This was my first time teaching and I put together my own power point to facilitate this first of its kind class related to animals at MBPD October 20th, 2017: I was chosen and awarded by the Hispanic Heritage committee as the recipient of “Outstanding Hispanic community member 2017” for giving back to the Hispanic community and helping them with their animals. February 05Th, 2018: Founded my own non-profit Animal welfare foundation, “Miami Beach Animal Advocates (MBAA)” March 21st, 2018: The city of Miami Beach declared this date officially, “Miami Beach Animal Advocates day” and receives a proclamation. July 25th, 2018: The first reading to establish a first of its kind “Animal welfare committee” was passed at a city of Miami Beach commission meeting. Miami Beach Animal Advocates will hold 1 of 9 seats created for this committee. The committee will make recommendations to the city commission regarding animal welfare programs and community solutions to issues affecting the well-being of such animals. October 17th, 2018: The “Animal welfare committee” was ratified and Miami Beach Animal Advocates was awarded a seat on the committee. For many years I have been covering the bulk of veterinary care costs along with housing and feeding the rescue animals until they find homes. In between there have been angels in our community that have graciously donated very generous amounts of funds to ease the burden and for this I am very thankful.
