Panel Input - Daniel's 21 in 2021 ListDaniel’s “21 in 21”
1.Expand funding for Code Compliance in order to ensure they are
adequately staffed to help address chronic problems within the
ADCD. Launch a public dashboard where the community can
measure the impact of enforcement
2.Enhance sanitation level of service to ensure more frequent trash
pickup, both in the ADCD as well as Flamingo Park neighborhood,
which sees a lot of trash from ADCD customers
3.Improve signage to prevent repeated turning on to 100 block by
tourists and related safety issues
4.Dress up the alleys in the 100 block so that they are more welcoming
to our visitors. Ensure that businesses have regular trash pickup and
are responsible for not letting their trash heap up
5.Develop standard business code of conduct and enforce
6.Develop a uniform program for outdoor sidewalk cafe decor, so that
there is a cohesive theme
7.Use license plate readers to collect data and analyze the type of
travel within the district - e.g., cruising, residents, visitors, etc, to
determine who is using our streets. Leverage this data to plan
strategies moving forward
8.Implement a Citizen Monitor Group for the Art Deco Cultural District.
Assign volunteer monitors to walk the district and help ensure safety
and compliance with our rules, using a mobile app to liaison with the
City
9.Work with the County to increase their investment in safety on Miami
Beach. The County, which runs our airport and maintains our beach,
should have more of a stake in the Art Deco Cultural District
10.Add banners throughout the Art Deco District reminding visitors
that they are in one of the most famous places in the world
11.Develop a pilot outdoor music program in Lummus Park focused
on era-specific music from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, and
attracting a more diverse demographic. Live stream these events on
Facebook and find a local TV channel to broadcast
12.Station park rangers or police in known problem areas such as
100 blocks where we see repeated issues happening
13.Develop a Wayfinding Strategy that will upgrade our current
wayfinding within the ADCD, pointing to local hotels, cultural
institutions, and parking garages. Engage a professional design
company with wayfinding experience to provide this plan
14.Experiment with 24-hour resident-only parking during high-impact
time periods in Zone 2 and Zone 5
15.Ramp up enforcement of parking regulations. Partner with tow
companies to promptly scan and remove cars illegally parked in
residential areas and surface lots in the ADCD. Share this data
publicly so the community can better understand the level of
enforcement. Consider deputizing tow trucks
16.Hire a branding agency to market the ADCD and to develop an
ongoing marketing strategy focused on arts & culture and events
happening in the area
17.Develop a Health & Wellness program in Lummus Park with
morning yoga, fitness events, and muscle beach activities for our
active and fit community. This should also be targeted to our
residents, to bring them back to the park
18.Develop strategies for non-cafe interventions next to hotels that
are not currently using the public right of way for a cafe. These would
be good areas for small music pop-ups, artisan booths, and other
programs that will help diversify the offerings of the street from simply
food/drink to cultural and more
19.Complete lighting audit and ensure all streets in the ADCD have
adequate lighting. Implement refined lighting interventions, not the
rental lighting that we currently use
20.Develop Police protocols to ensure safety while also making
visitors feel safe (e.g., stationary lightbars when police cars are
parked, more targeted sirens)
21.Ensure continued bicycle path protection and pedestrian safety
