Miami Beach Government and Commissioners,
Thank you for taking the time to review my resume and considering me as a candidate for the Next Generation Council.
My interest in this role is to provide my knowledge and input of experiences that I have had as a young woman, domestic
worker, and small business owner. My top priorities focused in Miami Beach would be safety and community involvement,
especially in lieu of recent events occurring in Miami Beach. I also have a key interest in sustainability initiatives and
entrepreneurship.
A little about my work experiences: Most of my career has been focused in caregiving of infants. However, I have also
worked as a Liaison Officer on a FEMA funded project and as a Sustainability Intern and at Hillsborough Community
College.
My role as Liaison Officer in San Juan, Puerto Rico was to work directly with our client to ensure standards, procedures
and expectations were being met by my team. It was my responsibility to be the point person between client and company
whenever a need may arise, this was a 24/7 position. Due to the project being FEMA funded and the emergency state in
which we were working, accuracy of reporting and clear communication was vital to success of the mission.
At Hillsborough Community College, I took on many roles relating to sustainability and student coordination. I served
as President of “Student’s for the Environment” I managed a team of students who assisted on tasks related to the mission of
our student organization. I frequently recruited for this organization and planned events for community and club members. I
often used the community garden as a tool for education to teach others about food security, how food is grown, life skills,
and more. I represented Hillsborough Community College at conferences relating to sustainability in higher education. The
garden received multiple grants that I either oversaw or worked on with a team of other interns, students, and teachers. My
favorite project I worked on in this position was creating and running a summer camp in collaboration with Hillsborough
Community College to teach K-12 students about how to grow their own food and other sustainability topics.
When I find a project to work on and be passionate about, I put my all into the project. My hope is to bring this same
spirit and energy to Miami Beach Next Generation Council. I want to use my skills, knowledge, and experiences to create a
happy, safe, and prosperous community for not only young people but also residents of any age and the visitors who frequent
our beautiful paradise.
Thank you for your consideration,
Cameron McLain
