Amy Litos 650 West Avenue #1802 Miami Beach, FL 33139 305.206.1215 (mobile) A_litos@icloud.com November 25, 2021 RE: Application for a Board/Committee Position on: MWPA (Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority) and/or Transportation, Parking and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee Dear City Official, It has been eight years that I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity of moving to our beautiful city of Miami Beach. Although having been a resident of Dade County for many years, I had come to the island as a visitor – to dine, attend cultural events, and of course, sun on our beautiful beaches. Then it occurred to me that the lifestyle Miami Beach offers its residents was exactly what I had been searching for on a full-time basis. Like so many of us, I too am a transplant - with my move taking me from Southern California to South Florida after college. Having always been a warm weather and beach person, it did not take me long to acclimate to my new home. Although graduating with a college degree in anthropology I parlayed that background into a teaching career as a high school ESL instructor in the Los Angeles Unified School District and at Berlitz. My lifelong love of design eventually led me to open my own company over 25 years ago providing design services for both residential and commercial clients running the gamut from the family of a former Governor and U.S. Senator to a number of Fortune 500 Companies. It has been a highly rewarding and immensely interesting career on so many levels. As an avid advocate for a balanced life, I have put this to practice by involving myself in extracurricular activities from volunteer work in my community, to working on political campaigns, to indulging my travel fetish and love of sailing. My civic involvement has included volunteering as a member of my neighborhood architectural board while living in Miami Lakes where I was able to draw on my professional expertise in design while overseeing the review of remodeling as well as new construction in my community. Additionally, for many years I volunteered at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden where I was fortunate enough to be part of the inaugural team for the spectacular Wings of the Tropics butterfly conservatory. And as a resident of The Floridian, I have served as a member of the Landscaping Committee formed to advise and oversee the updating of landscaping of our building. For the last two years I have had the deep pleasure of serving as a board member of WAvNA. Working with my collogues on this board has allowed me the opportunity to serve the Miami Beach community in a demonstrable and tangible way. In particular, the mentorship of fellow board members Gayle Durham, Shawn Bryant and Tim Carr has been invaluable. My travel bug has taken me to many of the world’s capitals and from the savannahs of East Africa to swimming with tropical penguins in The Galapagos. Among my sailing adventures are idyllic Caribbean bare boat charters (for those who are not sailors, this is not what you are thinking) to the terror of complete white-out conditions and gale force winds necessitating being tethered to the vessel to prevent from being swept overboard. So now I am transitioning into retirement and would like to put my energy into giving back to the community in a more demonstrative manner. I believe that becoming an active member of the Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority (MWPA) and/or the Transportation, Parking and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee would be the perfect vehicles – allowing me to make a mark on this community which I have come to adore. We have been very fortunate to have had many vocal civic-minded advocates over the years who have taken an active role in championing for the residents’ best interests over those of developers who often place profits over quality of life. There is a middle ground in this equation and I feel that serving on these boards will allow me to achieve that balance. My particular interest in the MWPA stems from my personal affinity and active participation in all water- centric activities including sailing, ocean swimming, and snorkeling. As to my interest in the Transportation, Parking and Bicycle-Pedestrian Committee - I am an avid cycler and walker for exercise, pleasure and for ecological concerns. It would be my honor to be a member of these boards where I could contribute to the valuable work these boards have already begun by offering my own skillset and experiences as a compliment to those already represented on these boards. Regards, Amy Litos
